| A brand new
DOC zone for an area with centuries old vine?growing tradition.
Massa Marittima and its neighbouring medieval towns are rich
in history, and are a jewel in the crown of the northern Grosseto
Maremma. The Monteregio DOC wines were born here, on these hills
and foothills, and these wines - coming in nine varieties -
are an excellent example of the local wine production, which
is obtained from a selection of grapes that have long been used
in this part of Tuscany. |
|
|
|
The entire communities of Massa Marittima
and Monterotondo Marittimo, and parts of Roccastrada, Gavorrano,
Castiglione della Pescaia, Scarlino and Follonica (in the
province of Grosseto), excluding the lowlands.

| There is a
vast selection for these wines, as is vast the repertoire of
Maremma cooking. A general rule is light hors d'oeuvres, soups,
fish dishes for the white wines; cold cuts, and meat, etc for
the red wines; meat roasts for the Riserva, the new wine Novello
can be enjoyed throughout the meal and is wonderful with roasted
chestnuts when in season. Vin Santo is perfect with all local
sweets. |
